Sea Point to V&A Waterfront walk
Use Cape Town's Atlantic-side promenade as the route spine, decide whether Green Point Park is worth the detour, and keep a MyCiTi exit ready instead of treating the Waterfront as an unplanned extension of the walk.
Baseline, not a promise
About 3.7 km and 44 minutes for a direct Sea Point to Waterfront walk.
That third-party reference is a useful floor. A promenade-first line, park detour, crossings, weather, crowds, stops, and your exact start point can all add time and distance.
Route shape
Sea Point Promenade → Green Point → V&A Waterfront
The useful decision is not whether these places are close. It is which version of the corridor you want: the shortest practical walk, a promenade-led line, or a greener variation through Green Point Park.
- 01
Start on the Sea Point Promenade
Use the promenade as the route spine rather than Main Road. Cape Town Tourism describes the paved beachfront walkway as continuing from Sea Point toward Mouille Point and Green Point.
- 02
Continue through Three Anchor Bay and Green Point
Stay on the Atlantic-side corridor toward Green Point. The Green Point Lighthouse is an easy named orientation point before the route turns toward the park and Waterfront precinct.
- 03
Choose the Green Point Park detour deliberately
Green Point Park is a useful greener variation, but it is a detour rather than part of the shortest Sea Point-to-Waterfront walk. The City of Cape Town lists the park at Fritz Sonnenberg Road and publishes a visitor map with Waterfront and MyCiTi connections.
- 04
Finish at the V&A Waterfront
Treat the Waterfront as the route finish, not as a vague district somewhere beyond Green Point. From here you can continue by MyCiTi, taxi, or another planned leg instead of automatically walking the same corridor back.
Direct walking baseline
≈3.7 km
Reference for Sea Point to the Waterfront. Do not use it as the exact distance of a Green Point Park detour.
Pure walking baseline
≈44 min
Add time for the promenade, crossings, photos, weather, food, park paths, and any stop inside the Waterfront.
Transit fallback
MyCiTi 104
The official timetable publishes stops across the same corridor, including Waterfront, Mouille Point, Lighthouse, Promenade, and Sea Point Pool.
Practical trade-offs
Decide the return before the walk becomes a one-way surprise.
- Should I walk the whole corridor both ways?
- Only if the return distance fits the day. A one-way walk with a MyCiTi or taxi exit keeps the waterfront section from quietly doubling your walking load.
- Is Green Point Park on the shortest route?
- No. Treat the park as an intentional variation. The City's visitor map places it between the promenade corridor, Cape Town Stadium, and Waterfront connections, but the exact path you use changes the distance.
- Is this a verified step-free route?
- No. The Sea Point Promenade is paved, but Navly has not verified every crossing, curb, park entrance, temporary work, and Waterfront connection as one continuous step-free chain.

Keep the route connected
Put this Cape Town corridor beside the rest of your trip.
The walking line is only one decision. Keep your stay, onward transport, weather-sensitive plans, and the next Cape Town cluster visible before committing the day.
